The 73rd Venice International Film Festival just ended tonight, directed as usual by Mr. Alberto Barbera and this year with Sam Mendes as president of the jury. The Festival this year has registered a significant increase of ticket sales. A Festival in the name of safety, thanks to the great work done by the police and a Festival that has given us so many new talents and so many new movies that, by this evening, they will begin their path in movie theaters for the audience who will to see them in the following weeks. There have been criticisms here and there, but you know, the festival is also this and probably without critics, the show would be less interesting!
The most important award, the Golden Lion for Best Film this year goes to Lav Diaz, for “The woman who left“, while Tom Ford receives the Golden Lion Jury Grand Prix for the much appreciated “Nocturna animalis“. Emma Stone performances in “La La Land” and Oscar Martinez in “El Ciudadano Ilustre” receiving a well-deserved Volpi Cup for best actor and actress.
